17. Six Days of Creation Gen. 1:2-30

Creation in Six Days Gen. 1:2

Vs 2 “and the earth was without form and void” some see it as confirmation of the Gap theory because it can mean became ruined or desolate r empty or vanity (Day theory). Either empty of humanity of ruined or unformed or uninhabited.

“Darkness was upon the face of the deep” means the physical universe as not yet energised. It implies incompleteness. The “face of the deep” is the presence of darkness of space. The Lord Jesus was before creation (Prov. 8:24 -27). The elements of matter and molecules of water were present, but not yet energised. The force of gravity was not yet functioning to draw particles together in to coherent mass with definite form. The physical universe has come into existence, but everything else was still dark, no form, no motion, no light, and no electromagnetic forces.

“the face of the waters” that is a formless presence of waters.

“the Spirit of God moved” (Heb. Rachaph) moved, shaked, (Jer. 23:9) fluttered (Deut. 32:11). It was like a mother hen hovering over her chicks, a rapid back and forth motion. It can mean vibrated, energy in operation of the cosmos is in the form of waves – light waves – light waves, heat waves, sound waves etc. God in this way generated creation He is the prime mover. He activated gravitational forces and after and earth particles came together to form a great sphere moving in space. Other such particles would soon come together also to form the sun, moon and stars throughout the universe. The earth now assumed a beautiful form of a perfect sphere. It was no ready for light and heat and other form s of energy.

Day 1 – The Creation of Light Gen. 1:3-5

On the first day of time God created light and matter, the substance from which all subsequent things were made. In vs. 1 the Father is the source of all things.

In vs. 2 The spirit is the energiser of all things.

In vs 3 The Son (the Word) is the revealer of all things. Jesus Christ is the light of the world and the revealer of truth (2 Cor. 4:6; Jn. 1:1, 14; 8:12 ; 1 Jn. 1:5).

Darkness was not removed completely but it was separated from light. Day was the light time, night was the dark time, and this was the beginning of a continuous twenty-four hour cycle. This means the earth was now rotating on its axis and therefore was a source of light on one side even though the sun was not yet made.

Visible light involves the function of the electromagnetic spectrum, gravitational and nuclear forces.

N.B. Sometime prior to the third day of creation f the physical universe a multitude of angels were created (Job 38:4-7). It may have been before the physical universe.

The earth is uniquely suited able for human habitation of special importance is its oxygen atmosphere and hydrosphere of liquid water, both vital to man’s existence.

Day 2 – The Origin of Space and Atmosphere – The Space and Heaven.

From the great mass of waters God separated some waters and placed them high above the rotating globe, with great space separating them form the waters below. The lower waters would provide the water base for living flesh and for earth processes. The upper waters would provide a sort of protection canopy (a tent to dwell in). God created order and beauty.

The word “firmament” is “raqia” = means expanse or spread out thinness or like a tent or canopy. The earths firmament is finely delicately balanced. If the proportion of nitrogen should be enlarged by just a very small percent human and animal life would be impossible. Man and animls require oxygen to live, and they have been using it u with every breath they have taken. Even though trillions pf creatures including man have been using it for these thousands of years it retains is fine balance and we have not run short of it. When men and animals inhale the air that surround them, the lungs absorb the oxygen and exhale the nitrogen plants absorb the nitrogen and exhale oxygen. This is a miracle of God.

The firmament was called “heaven” the first heaven, the atmosphere. He surrounded the planet with atmosphere, a thick blanket of air making life on this planet possible. To the human eye appears like a majestic blue canopy in the heaven above. The earths atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth and retained by earths gravity. It is invisible yet a material substance. It has weight is transparent unless laden with fog, smog, dust or some foreign substance. It absorbs heat and cold; its temperature can be raised or lowered. The mystery of climate and weather change (meteorology) is another aspect of the atmosphere. What Jesus said to Nichodemas still applies to many phases of weather and climate today (Jn.3:8). Men are fascinated by the weather and try to understand the complex laws which govern it. Mankind has always been interested in weather (Matt.16:2-3). The gales, the hurricanes, the whirlwind as, the storms, tornadoes, the variation of clouds, the 2onders of the snow, the cosmic forces of nature all fascinate him. The immensity of all this has been designed by the great Creator. We see His majesty in His works of creation and glorify Him as God however the unbeliever denies that God created all this, he sees it but denies god made it. The atmosphere is a belt of air surrounding the earth of about 60-100 miles. It consists of gases, namely 78.8% nitrogen and 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038 % carbon dioxide trace amounts other gases, and about 1% water. Earths atmosphere protects living organisms from ultraviolet rays. The reaction of God’s converting a portion of liquid water into vapour state was the release of gaseous components of the atmosphere which became the “firmament” holding up the lighter water vapour above. The waters above the firmament may have gone quite a distance into space and may have given a green house effect. There was no rain on the earth or bow in the sky (Gen. 2:5; 9:13 ). The water transmitted incoming solar radiation maintaining a pleasant atmosphere.

Day 3 –The Origin of Seas and Land (Continents) Gen. 1: 9-10

A third act of division occurred, that of the waters under the firmament and dry land. God separated the liquids form the solids. He gave land as a suitable habitation for man to live on. Tremendous chemical reactions got under way, as dissolved elements precipitated and combined with others to form the vast complex of minerals and rocks, making up solid earth – its crust and core. Great earth movements occurred, channels and reservoirs opened up as hills and mountains and islands appeared. It was the time the continents emerged. A lot of this would be would be changed later by the Flood. The seas of the earth are vas and still mysterious. They are immense and fill man with awe. He has not conquered them yet. (Ps. 104:24-26). Solomon said, “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come from and return” (Eccl. 1:7). The sea has both beauty and terror. It is a source of life but also a frightful force of destruction. It affects the atmosphere, climate, and weather. No other planet has a sea upon it. The planet has 58 millions square miles of land and 139 million square miles of sea or three fourths of the worlds surface. There is enough water in the sea to cover the entire earth with one and half miles of water. The fist day a division occurred between light and darkness, the second day a division between the waters in the firmament above and below, now a division between dry land and the lower waters. God gave the formation of a stable water cycle evaporation and precipitation.

Day 3 – The Origin of Vegetation – Order and Complexity Gen. 1:11-13

God created organised chemical elements of the earth in a complex and orderly systems. The earth now had a blanket of soil, sand and silt and clay –sized particles. This was a mixture abundant in chemical nutrients and soil moisture. God spoke and organised the chemical elements into tremendously complex systems. He covered the earth with a blanket of vegetation. What a spectacular kaleidoscopic of variation and al of colour. The scenery burst out in both colour and variety, there was no monotony here. Each had a programmed built in chemical structure which would reproduce units like it self. The array of plants, trees and herbs growing out of the fertile soul still cause mankind to wonder in amazement. Yet “they are vain in their own imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools…wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness” (Rom. 1:21 -22, 24). So called “men of science” believe foolish things. Naïve and gullible people become intrigued and fascinated and believe their fairy tale teachings.

“Grass” – This is all spreading ground-covering vegetation.

“Herbs” – Includes all bushes and shrubs.

“Trees” – All large woody plants, including fruit bearing trees.

These were created as full-grown and functioning entities. In each created organism was a “seed” programmed to enable continuing replication of that type of organism. The complex DNA molecule and genetic code contained in it reinforces Bible teaching of stability of kinds. There is a tremendous amount of variational potential within each kind, which can account for varieties within the species.

The order is specific – vegetation first to sustain life i.e. some plants need insects to pollinate them- this came on the sixth day.

“Morning and evening.” = Each occur over 100 times in scripture and it is always literal, that is a termination of light from darkness.

Day Four – The Origin of the Solar System – The Atmosphere Gen. 1:14-19

On this day the celestial sphere of the sun, moon, stars and planets were created. God devoted the first three days of the creation week to our planet the earth. The first day God gave light the fourth day He gave light bearers. He reached up into outer space surrounding the earth, and filled it with an infinite number of other worlds which were to serve the earth. The earth is an insignificant speck when compared to the vastness of the other heavenly bodies. But God in His own wisdom chose this speck for the habitation of man, the crown of all creation, so that all other world would serve this little planet. The first day was intrinsic light and the fourth day generators of light. Both were to “divided the light from the darkness.” The sun is the lamp and power plant of the earth, an atomic furnace of heat. The distance has been calculated minutely by god (93,000,000 miles from earth) if it was further we would freeze, nearer and we would be burned up. It is finely tuned and there is no rational explanation for this supreme engineering achievement without a supreme intelligent and master Builder. The sun is burning form the fourth day of creation it has not consumed the substance on which it feeds. Its heat reamisn the same, as tough regulated by a giant thermostat.

In addition to this they served as marking “signs and seasons, days and years.” It did not take billions of years for light from certain stars to reach our planet. Light trails were given in that one-day. The universe was created full grown -mature. Stars take a minor importance to the sun, moon and earth. Stars have a simple structure – hydrogen and helium, the earth is quite complex and made to sustain life. Some stars are small and some of great magnitude, some are dim and others shine with their great brilliancy. Some appear isolated other in clusters. On this day the celestial sphere of the stars and planets were created. God called them al into existence at the same time, set in perpetual motion, each moving in its own orbit and maintaining the same distance from each other and traveling though space at a speed greater than an atomic missile. There is no interruption or collision, each having its own time table and mathematical accuracy. God’s divine traffic lights. The Psalmist said, “O Lord how excellent are all thy works in wisdom thy hast made them” The Bible is accurate in every aspect. It teaches that the heavens declare the glory and handiwork of God (Psalm 19:1-6), the Creator wrote this. God understands every aspect of the universe He has created, and He never makes mistakes.

The first day God gave light the fourth day He gave light bearers. The first day was intrinsic light and the fourth day generators of light. Both were to “divided the light from the darkness.”

THE EXPANSION OF THE UNIVERSE

Isaiah 40:22 teaches that God stretches out or expands the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. This would suggest that the universe has actually increased in size since its creation. God is stretching it out, causing it to expand. If the entire universe was being stretched out, the galaxies would all be moving away; and that is what they actually appear to be doing.

It is fascinating that the Bible recorded the idea of an expanding universe thousands of years before secular science came to accept the idea.

This verse must have seemed very strange when it was first written. The universe certainly doesn’t look as if it is expanding. After all, if you look at the night sky tonight, it will appear about the same size as it did the previous night, and the night before that.

In fact, secular scientists once believed that the universe was eternal and unchanging. The idea of an expanding universe would have been considered nonsense to most scientists of the past. So it must have been tempting for Christians to reject what the Bible teaches about the expansion of the universe.

God Word is correct it is an expanding universe and the secular world cannot fully be trusted because its views keep changing. God is never wrong. Most astronomers today believe that the universe is expanding. In the 1920s, astronomers discovered that virtually all clusters of galaxies appear to be moving away from all other clusters; this indicates that the entire universe is expanding.

If the entire universe was being stretched out, the galaxies would all be moving away; and that is what they actually appear to be doing.

It is fascinating that the Bible recorded the idea of an expanding universe thousands of years before secular science came to accept the idea.

THE AGE OF THE UNIVERSE

Scripture also addresses the age of the universe. The Bible teaches that the entire universe was created in six days (Exodus 20:11 ). As the universe expands, the galaxies move away from each other. We know from the genealogies recorded in Scripture that this creation happened about 6,000 years ago but no more than 10000 years if you include some missing geologies. Mathematically mankind can only be a few thousand years old. Egyptian a history and the histories of humanities can only go back a few thousand years. If we were to believe man was created millions of years ago then we would have no room to stand or even exist on our planet it would be too small. upright

Recession of the Moon

The moon is slowly moving away from the earth. As the moon orbits the earth, its gravity pulls on the earth’s oceans, causing tides. The tides actually “pull forward” on the moon, which causes the moon to gradually spiral outward. So, the moon moves about an inch and a half away from the earth every year. That means that the moon would have been closer to the earth in the past.

For example, six thousand years ago, the moon would have been about 800 feet closer to the earth (which is not much of a change, considering the moon is a quarter of a million miles away). So this “spiraling away” of the moon is not a problem over the biblical timescale of six thousand years. But if the earth and moon were over four billion years old (as evolutionists teach), then we’d have big problems. In this case, the moon would have been so close that it would actually have.

The recession of the moon is consistent with a recent origin. It did not happen 1.4 billion years ago. This problem suggests that the moon can’t possibly be as old as secular astronomers claim.

Secular astronomers who assume that the big bang is true must use other explanations to get around this. For example, they might assume that the rate at which the moon was receding was actually smaller in the past. But this is an extra assumption needed to make their billions-of-years model work. The simplest explanation is that the moon hasn’t been around for that long. The moving-away of the moon is a problem for a belief in billions of years, but is perfectly consistent with a young age.

Planets. These are planets that orbit distant stars—not our sun. These planets have not been directly observed. Instead, they have been detected indirectly—usually by the gravitational “tug” they produce on the star they orbit. But the principles being used here are all good “operational science”—the kind of testable, repeatable science that can be done in a laboratory. So, we have every reason to believe that these are indeed real planets that God created.

These extrasolar planets are actually a problem for big-bang, evolutionary models of solar system formation. Secular astronomers had expected that other solar systems would resemble ours—with small planets forming very close to their star, and large planets (like Jupiter and Saturn) forming far away. But many of these extrasolar planets are just the opposite; they are large Jupiter-sized planets orbiting very close to their star. This is inconsistent with evolutionary models of solar system formation, but it’s not a problem for biblical creation. God can create many different varieties of solar systems, and apparently He has done just that.

Spiral Galaxies

A galaxy is an enormous assembly of stars, interstellar gas and dust. The galaxy in which we live is called the Milky Way; it has over 100 billion stars. Some galaxies are round or elliptical. Others have an irregular shape. But some of the most beautiful galaxies are spiral galaxies are supposed to be many billions of years old. Yet we do see spiral galaxies—and lots of them. This suggests that they are not nearly as old as the big bang requires. Spiral galaxies are consistent with the biblical age of the in nature. Spiral galaxies slowly rotate, but the inner regions of the spiral rotate faster than the outer regions. This means that a spiral galaxy is constantly becoming more and more twisted up as the spiral becomes tighter. After a few hundred million years, the galaxy would be wound so tightly that the spiral structure would no longer be recognizable. According to the big bang scenario, galaxy universe, but are problematic for a belief in billions of years.

Magnetic fields of the planets

Many of the planets of the solar system have strong magnetic fields. These fields are caused by electrical currents, and they decay with time. We can even measure this decay for the earth’s magnetic field: it gets weaker and weaker every year. If the planets were really billions of years old (as evolutionists believe) then their magnetic fields should be extremely weak by now. Yet they are not. The outer planets of the solar system, in particular, have quite strong magnetic fields. A reasonable explanation for this is that these planets are only a few thousand years old, as the Bible teaches.

Comets

Comets are balls of ice and dirt. Many of them orbit the sun in elliptical paths. They spend most of their time far away from the sun, but occasionally they come very close to it. Every time a comet comes near the sun, some of its icy material is blasted away by the solar radiation. As a result, comets can orbit the sun for only so long (perhaps about 100,000 years at most) before they completely run out of material. Since we still have a lot of comets, this suggests that the solar system is much younger than 100,000 years; this agrees

Day Five – The origin of Life – Living Creatures Gen. 1:20-23

All the necessities for living creatures were now present on earth; light, air, water, soil, chemicals, plants, fruits and so forth. The first introduction of animal life was not fragile blob of protoplasm that happened by chance by electrical discharges over some ocean.

Vs 21 “Every living thing that moves” = “sherets = moving creatures, it refers to marine life, invertebrates, vertebrates and reptiles. The Bible shows that the water suddenly swarmed with creatures. Creation of swarms of small sea animals and their subsequent “great increase” or “teeming by the water.” A simple herring can produce up to 68000 eggs, a carp 200000 eggs, a cod fish 4-9 million eggs. God said “Let the waters bring forth abundantly.”

“Fowl of the air” one pair of robins are capable of producing 19,500,000 offspring in ten years if there were no natural enemies. A flock of thunder birds in Australia was estimated at 150,000,000 birds. There are millions of sparrows, starlings etc. There are thousands of species. The mystery of migration of both birds and fish fills us with wonder.

“Great whales and every living creature” All sea creatures and monsters, dinosaurs and dragons. God pronounced a blessing on them and provided for them. Whales can reach up to 100 feet in length and 150 tons in weight the equivalent of 40 elephants. . They are the “leviathans” (Job 40:1; Ps.104:26) The first thing a baby whale does at birth is to swim to the surface and breathe in air. Who taught it to do that. The first thing a Nile Crocodile when it hatches on land is go to the rive. Who taught it to do that? How does it know where to go? How does an archer fish know how to hit its prey on a branch of a tree with water refraction causing a distortion and it does not starve to death?

Day 6 – The Earth bring s forth life after its kind.
Vs 24 “The earth brought forth it kind” – Each species is special and produces within each kind. There is a variety of the cattle family, the dog family, the cat family, the snake family the human family, and the fish family, and the grass family. But none crosses over to the other kind. All cells come from pr-existing cells. Mammals (animal life) gives birth to their young, nourish with the mothers milk, breath by means of lungs, most have four limbs, the vital organs are similar to mans. They vary form the size of a bat to an elephant. Dogs, cats, sheep, cows etc. Dinosaurs are included. Animals differ in size and divided into herbivore (vegetarians), carnivore (meat eaters and omnivore (both vegetable and meat eaters. Some are domesticated like dogas, horses, camels donkeys others are wild like lions. tigers, bears, hippos etc. .

Development Within Creation

Although form has changed and modified each species stays within “its own kind.” People and animals adapt to environment but it is not the “survival of the fittest”. Each animal and plant brought forth “after its own kind.”

Theistic Evolution. This view is that God created in a direct fashion at the beginning of the process and ever since has worked for within through evolution. He modified a creature and gave it a soul or spiritual nature.

Progressive Creationism. God created in a series of acts over along period of time. They first was created then evolved. However a lot of what was beloved never existed i.e. Piltown man.

Day Six –The Origin of Man – Man the Completed Creation Gen. 1:24-30

On the atmosphere and lithosphere – land surface He created domestic able animals, large wild beasts, large wild animals and all animals that crawl close to the surface of the earth.

Vs 24-25 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind, and it was so”. And God made the breast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind and everything that creeps upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw it was good.” Mammals (animal life) they give birth to their young, nourish with the mothers milk, breath by means of lungs, most have four limbs, the vital organs are similar to mans. They vary form the size of a bat to an elephant. Dogs, cats, sheep, cows etc. Dinosaurs are included. Animals differ in size and divided into herbivore (vegetarians), carnivore (meat eaters and omnivore (both vegetable and meat eaters. Some are domesticated like dogs, horses, camels donkeys others are wild like lions . tigers, bears, hippos etc.
